Plastic Waste Installation 2026
Dimensions: Ø 150 cm, H 200 cm

GroenAfdruk is a site-specific work that I created on commission from Omrin, the waste management company for the Northern Netherlands, for their new office: ‘Work Landscape of the Future’ in Heerenveen.  It is constructed from green plastic waste from the province of Friesland. These materials came to me via the Estafette recycling shops, supplemented with waste from my own studio stock. Among them are also packaging materials for meat substitutes, which until a few years ago were still made from green plastic.

Many thanks to Omrin – John Vernooij, Renate van Opzeeland and Marieke Baan
Studio Public – Koen Vorst

Photos by myself and Omrin.
The ‘Work Landscape of the Future’ in Heerenveen was officially opened by Queen Maxima on 3 June.

Green Footprint
A monument to waste streams

A lunchbox, a flowerpot, a cutlery tray or a toy part – everything you see here was once an everyday object. Made, bought, used and eventually discarded. Discarded plastics from our waste materials were given a new lease of life in the hands of Carolien Adriaansche. She created this artwork for Omrin’s new dream office in the ‘Work Landscape of the Future’.

‘Groenafdruk’ shows just how much value still lies in what we throw away. Many of these objects were still usable, yet disappeared from view due to our high rate of consumption. We replace, renew and keep buying, often without any real need. Yet reusing or using things for longer is at least as effective as recycling.

Recycling gives materials a second life, but it also requires energy and raw materials. With this installation, Adriaansche therefore holds up a mirror to us: the most sustainable choice does not begin with recycling, but with buying less and using things more consciously.
